The importance of preselling

If you want to make more money as an affiliate, you must presell.

First, what is preselling? Well, it is an art. And it’s also a science. The goal is to get your reader prepped to make a purchase. Then when they’re ready, refer them to the product website so they can buy it. If you do it well, it’s completely invisible.

In a nutshell, you provide value. And then refer them to the product website. In just a minute, I’ll explain exactly how to presell. But before we do, you need to know why it’s so important. Just a few of the reasons you want to presell.

  • It helps your reader trust you – And gaining the trust of your readers helps them want to click your links. And the more traffic you can send to the sale page, the more commissions you’ll earn.
  • It takes your reader out of defense mode – When you’re preselling vs. pitching, you’re reader doesn’t feel the need to be guarded. Unguarded reading means they’re not filtering what you say. So your message gets across.
  • It preps them to buy – Now they trust you and feel open to your message. So they become more receptive to other messages. This includes the sales website you send them to! Sending them to the sales page in this state makes them more receptive to the actual pitch.
  • You make more money – They arrive at the product website prepped to buy. With a feeling of trust and openness. The only possible result is more sales!
  • It increases customer satisfaction – Your referral now feels like they decided to buy. Versus being pitched or convinced. So they are happier with their purchase.
  • Preselling increases your bottom line – A satisfied customer doesn’t ask for a refund. And that translates to more commission staying in your affiliate business.

The need to presell is clear. You make more money. And produce happier customers. It’s a win-win-win!

Now, here’s how preselling works:

OK, now you understand why it’s so important. And hopefully you’re convinced you need to start doing it. So, let’s talk about how to make it work. As I mentioned earlier, it’s both an art and a science.

The art of preselling

First, you have to gain the trust of your reader, so they let their guard down. This can only be accomplished by providing actual value in the information you’re presenting. The art of this is to provide enough information to be of value, but not enough to satiate the hunger. That is, they have to be wanting more when you refer them to the product sales page for the product you’re trying to sell. And because you’ve gained trust, they’re more receptive to the sales message and more likely to buy.

Part 2 – the Science

There’s also a specific formula you need to follow.

First of all, it’s important HOW you present your information. You have to have your end in mind. Your goal is to sell the product you’re promoting. How can providing information accomplish this goal? One way is to give them enough info to whet the appetite, but not enough to satisfy it. The other method is to explain all the details and expose how difficult it is to do what you’re explaining. In either case, the product you’re referring them to solves the problem for them.

But you can’t link to your affiliate link. Instead you link directly to the product sales page. That’s because nobody likes to click on affiliate links. But how will you earn affiliate commissions if you don’t use your affiliate link? Well, that’s part of the science of this whole process. You use an image tag to cookie your reader before they leave your site.

The next trick is to hyperlink specific words and phrases inside the content of the article you’re providing. Hyperlinked words are clicked more than anything else. And when the words are in context like this, it makes perfect sense for your reader to click them.

Putting all of this together creates a powerful affiliate marketing formula for success.

Unfortunately…

This process is not easy – at all! Let’s talk about everything required to put this plan into action: Awesome content. First and foremost, you have to be able to write a great article that provides valuable information. To do that you have to have enough information to be valuable and be able to present it in a useful way. Writing to presell. First, you have to give good information. And you have to make the content accessible in order to provide value. And somehow also make them want to learn more. Or provide so much information that they see how hard it will be to implement.

Product selection. You also need to determine what products you’ll be preselling. Even if you get the article written. Your efforts are completely wasted if you don’t pick a winning product.

The technical know-how To be most effective you have to use the “covert cookie” method. This is pretty easy – you just make a 1 pixel X 1 pixel image with no border and make the “source” of the image your affiliate link. (But if you do it wrong, you won’t get paid for the traffic you send.)

Summary:

Now you’re armed with the information needed to effectively presell. Using these techniques will increase your affiliate sales by 500% or more! So, start now and develop preselling content for all your affiliate promotions. Take action now. Make the extra effort required to propel your affiliate business to the next level.
